(5 out of 5) A brave undertaking, done right, eventually.

John Pedersen designed a .32ACP, and .380 ACP roller/ramp delayed blowback pistol back in the early 1900s. Remington made molds of human hands, and studied the anatomy of the hand, wrist and arm, when designing the thin comfortable original R51. The original R51 felt so good in the hand and aimed so naturally, George Patton had Remington scrounge the factory for parts 8 years after final production had ceased. Disassembly of the original R51 was a complicated series of instructions, and twisting, squeezing, tilting, & wedging items in and around just to get them out of the slide. Aside from that, these pistols were fabulous shooters, with a very natural aim point that few other pistols share, even today. Hats off to Remington for even attempting to bring the R51 back in a quasi Pederson design, and in a modern chambering, such as the 9x19mm Parabellum. It was a bold move that failed in 2014, and stained the reputation of the gun, badly.

If Kimber owners can justify the idiosyncrasies of their $1000+ Solo, & Micro, and how they only like to shoot high dollar premium ammo, & require a break-in period, I think we can easily overlook the fact the R51 wont shoot steel cased garbage ammo, and some budget 115 grain brass cased range ammo. I stopped using 115 fun packs in lieu of 124 grain FMJ that more accurately represents the 124 grain JHP I will use in a life or death encounter.

That having been said, I have no problems carrying the new R51. 124 grain Golden Saber +P or regular, works as well as Hydroshock, HST, Gold Dot, Hornady, or any other good ammo. 124 grain NATO ball ammo in the Winchester white box, or 124 grain Blazer brass works just fine on the range, and so does 147 grain. I trust this gun more than I do the Solo I sold. $319 With the rebate! What are you waiting for I have seen these as cheap as $299, but not with Sportsmans Outdoor Superstores free shipping, so BUY YOURS NOW! I love my antique R51s, and this modern R51 is a very nice tribute to a fantastic old classic Pedersen pistol. It mot as wafer thin, or cool & concealable, but its also not a .380 or a .32ACP anymore, either. The size is between compact & subcompact and very nicely in a range that feels like a compact DUTY pistol, but not a too small subcompact pocket or backup pistol. Its a Goldilocks size, for my hands. Not too big, not too small! JUST RIGHT! 7+1!! No complaints there either! It still has some Pedersen traits too, however I have not totally taken one apart yet.

They are fun to shoot too, accurate, comfortable, and the shoot well above their size & weight, which is always a huge plus for me! Any small gun that shoots like a big gun, is a true asset.
