There's nothing more classically all-American than a steel 6-shooter built by Colt - but not every revolver is the same. That's why we're proud to offer a diverse collection of Colt Python .357 Magnum revolvers. Find the Python revolver with the features you need at Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore.
Since its release in 1955, the Colt Python has been one of the most premium revolvers in the American market. The original Colt .357 models were defined by many features, most notably the barrel rib, heavy underlug, and unique "Royal Blue" steel barrel. The barrel rib and underlug provided near-perfect balance; the blue finish created its iconic appearance. These features led to the Colt Python .357 becoming not only one of Colt's best-performing firearms but also their most expensive.
While used as a law enforcement gun for many departments around the nation from its release in the 50s to the mid-90s, it was slowly replaced by the semi-auto handguns with similar performance and higher capacities. In our collection, you'll find Colt .357 revolvers made for competitive shooting and self-defense. From the legendary Python to the King Cobra, its successor, find the revolver that's right for you.

Revolvers chambered for .357 Magnum may have an older design, but that doesn't make it any less capable of a weapon. .357 Magnum cartridges are extremely versatile, coming in a wide variety of designs and grain sizes for different use cases. You can use revolvers like the Colt Python .357 for everything from target shooting to self-defense. And despite the caliber being known for packing a punch, they're still controllable and handle recoil well.
These Colt .357 revolvers are simply some of the best revolvers ever made. The Python is known for its smooth trigger pull, tight cylinder lock-up, and fantastic accuracy for a revolver. It was also built with unique materials that stood out from other revolvers, such as blued steel.
These Colts are extremely capable of taking down an attacker. Law enforcement used them for decades due to their effectiveness against hostiles in shootouts. Depending on the heft of the round, it can even bring down tough big game like bears - though we recommend something like our high-caliber bolt-action rifles for something like that.
There are two main kinds of revolvers: single-action and double-action revolvers.
With a single-action revolver, pulling the trigger only advances the cylinder (ergo, "single" action). You have to pull the hammer back before every shot. While this makes for a more accurate gun, it doesn't shoot very fast.
With a double-action gun, pulling the trigger advances the cylinder and pulls the hammer back. All you need to do is pull the trigger until you run out of bullets. While this makes follow-up shots easy, the trigger pull weight is extremely heavy. The effort to shoot can be enough to destabilize your gun and make it less accurate. Double-action revolvers are better in close-quarters engagement, where speed is more important than accuracy.

If you prefer shooting revolvers over semi-auto handguns, DA revolvers make great CCWs. The trigger resistance inherent to the gun's design prevents accidental discharges in the holster or pocket, and the rapid follow-up shots make it very effective for close-range self-defense. For a reason, these pistols were service weapons for law enforcement for decades.
Each of these handguns has its pros and cons. SA firearms have a slower fire rate but a much lighter trigger pull. The ease of pulling the trigger and stopping to pull the hammer back, forcing you to re-sight on your target after each shot, improves accuracy. However, DA's relatively rapid rate of fire makes it invaluable in close-range scenarios. While its trigger pull weight is much heavier, that weight prevents accidental discharges. Which one is better depends on your needs.
Unfortunately, all firearm orders need to be sent to your local FFL dealer. You can pick it up from them after it's successfully delivered.
