An ideal concealed carry or back-up gun, the P224 9mm is an especially good choice for those familiar with the SIG SAUER manual of arms. From the full-sized P226® to the P229 to the P224, the controls and operation all remain the same. Full-size SIGLITE® Night Sights are the standard in the Nitron® coated slide and allow the P224 to deliver pinpoint accuracy, which can be a challenge in most subcompacts.
Despite its small size, the P224 maintains a double-stack magazine for a capacity of 12 rounds of 9mm, giving the P224 a decided advantage over most subcompact competitors. Newer model P229 magazines can also be used for an even greater round count and permit users to carry a full-size spare magazine as a backup to the flush-fit P224 magazine.
This Anti-Snag (SAS) model features a de-horned slide and frame, and the new ergonomically enhanced one-piece grip. Additionally, a short-reset trigger (SRT) is present in this DA/SA version. The P229 has proven to be a standout performer and is carried by numerous federal, state, and local agencies.
I have had this gun for almost 3 years now. I carried a Sig P226 as a duty gun since the late 80s. This P224 is the perfect backup/ off duty companion to the P226. I carry this daily. It's a beautiful shooting gun. Fast, accurate shots. Awesome trigger reset. Same manual of arms as the P226; no retraining. Looks and feels the same. Same width, but shorter height and length. It will take the P226 mags. This gun was dead on accurate from the box. It took a few hundred rounds to break in when it was new, just like the numerous P226 models I carried over 20+ years, but once it was broken in, it is flawlessly reliable. No malfunctions with a variety of ammo since break in. I carry Liberty Civil Defense ammo and it performs perfectly with it. I'm partial to Sig. Not everyone will like it like I do. I was trained on the Sig platform, so that's what I am good with. My wife carries the P224 and hers has never had a malfunction, even during break in. Mine probably went through some bad ammo during break in because I've never had a malfunction since. I put several hundred rounds through it a month.
