(4 out of 5) OK deal, but not up to the hype
by from GREENLEAF, KS on

This was bought and evaluated alongside the black one ordered by another customer through a different supplier. Bought as a farm gun for varmints etc. Weight is less than a steel framed .45 Colt Government. It is comparable to an aluminum framed 1911 but more butt heavy. Parts compatibility with std. 1911s is nonexistent in the slide. Bushing has a smaller ID and OD. Plug is a smaller OD also. The slide lock has a flat surface, so replacement is impossible W/O alteration to the gun. Frame parts compatibility is unknown, but not promising. The recoil spring is light, as needed for a .22. This can easily result in chambering a round while holstering. Safe carry is cocked with the safety on whether a round is chambered or not. Out-of-battery safety, disconnector/sear does not function. The hammer falls when significantly out of battery, if not with the first trigger pull, then within 2 or 3. Provided that the internals are more in adherence to the original design, this should be easily correctable. Grips are functional and inexpensive. Finish worn to bare metal on front corners of the slide in 20 times holstering in leather. Magazine loading and function after proper lube is still gritty in newness but expected to improve. Sights are steel 3 dot. Other parts are metal but may be MIM. The rail is properly dimensioned. Standard 1911 grips fit. Very functional and is expected to fill its role well. It is not a copy of a Colt nor a collectible but will serve the purpose that it is designed for well. It is a great deal on sale below retail with the caveat that one cannot expect to customize it much without drastic alteration.

(5 out of 5) Just a great gun
by from Las Vegas, NV on

Sportsmans exceeded expectations in delivery once again. The Colt/Walter 22 is really a nice gun.. Nearly identical in weight to a standard 1911. Plenty accurate, easy to operate the slide important for new shooters and women. I get lots of complements at the range on how much fun it is to shoot and how cool it is. The only reason the performance is a 4 is due to the need to find out which ammo works best. With .22 ammo being dirty and inconsistent in velocity/energy, it is best to shoot as high a velocity as you can find. Generally you can shoot around 125 rounds before it ft arts to jam due to being so direct...typical for a 22 auto pistol. It would be nice if they made this in a .22mag version.

(5 out of 5) A Great Practice 1911
by from Las Vegas, Nevada on

Sportsmans Superstore delivered the firearm quickly to my local dealer. Great Service. The gun is nearly identical to the standard Colt 1911 which makes it great for practice sessions. It's easy to strip even though it is slightly different than a standard 1911. It is surprisingly accurate with almost no recoil...perfect for new shooters. The only reason it rated 4 on performance is because you need to try different ammo manufactures and velocities to find the one that works flawless. The higher velocity .22s the better. It shoots everything but some shells are dirtier than others and contributes to slower movement of the slide and an occasional jam. Not a big issue since you do need to know how to clear the gun. A great gun at a good price...buy it, shoot it and take your kids to the range.
