Due to its affordability, the AXIS is often a hunter’s first exposure to the world of Savage. Knowing that, we believe it should be representative of the dependability and accuracy for which Savage is renowned. So, in case you’re wondering how Savage can make the AXIS in the USA and still save you money without sacrificing performance, here’s the secret: they didn’t design a cheaper rifle, they designed a better way to make a Savage.
First off, first order from SOSS and I'm very pleased. Price was awesome, even local gunstore guy was amazed when I picked it up. As for the rifle, very impressed. I did some work on the trigger, it was heavy, had creep, and gritty. Put on a Vortex Crossfire 3-9x40. Performed barrel break-in today on a sand bag with cheap American Eagle 55gr FMJ. Results were poor, 2.75 group at 100 yards. Threw in reloads which brought 5-shot groups down to 0.75-0.88 at 100 yards. Maybe next time I can try for under 0.5. Light recoil, low report, and barrel stayed cool to the touch. Savage did a fine job and SOSS made it a phenomenal price. Thank you!
