Excellent service! Excellent handgun! Zero buyer's remorse!!!
Great gun but unfortunately the night sights kind of suck. I have very good vision, 20/10, and despite that, the front sight is too small in my opinion. The sights could be brighter too. I regret purchasing the night sight version of this gun over the standard sight version. I strongly encourage you to examine these sights in person or over the internet very carefully prior to purchasing. Besides that, the gun is excellent and shoots very well. Would give 5 stars if it wasn't for the poor night sights.
I ordered my shield on 4-12-2017. I received the handgun on 4-24-2017. I was overall satisfied except for the heavier than expected trigger pull. That was until the firing pin broke while using a snap cap. I sent the handgun back to S&W on 5-5-2017 for repair. I didn't receive the handgun back until 6-19-2017 because customer service said that they were running over 4 weeks behind. Lucky I had my XD45 compact for ccw that has never failed in over 4 years.
The rebate from S&W gave me the push I needed to finally snag a Shield. Put around 300 rounds through this gun so far and it is excellent. The accuracy is great and I find myself shooting better with this gun than my full size 9mm. The recoil is a non issue and it feels great in the hand, especially with the 8 round extended mags. Having two of those come along with night sights is great too. The front sight is not as bright as the rear sights for me, which was kind of a disappointment, and it makes focusing a little bit more difficult in dim lighting. Overall it is easy to get a proper sight picture and get shots on target though. The trigger is probably the worst part about the Shield. It really does have that gritty feel that everyone talks about. It's adequate at best. Another small gripe I had was that my gun came in the box without one of those anti corrosive zippered bags and has a few scuffs on the finish as a result. Overall, I'm still extremely pleased with it, especially considering the rebate that's out. SOSS had good service again. Processing took a while, but they shipped it out within 2 days after the order processed.
First off, this is a fantastic little shooter. The feel in your hand is great. Shoots great. Not much recoil at all. Now for the bad. I hate that the sights are so tiny, even for a compact gun. If you don't leave the gun sit in light, the sights do not light up in the dark, and when they do, they look like two tiny green snake eyes. Change the sights. Now when I first bought the gun, I had no problems racking the slide. Now, after about 100 rounds, the slide is a monster to rack. Granted, my hands are old and bad, but why did it work great when new. I called S&W and they are sending a new spring assembly to me; hopefully it will work. I leave the slide open all the time to weaken the spring, and will take it out and put another 100 rounds through it. Maybe it will loosen up some. Other than the spring, I love it as my everyday carry.
