This review is for a police trade-in Smith and Wesson 5906 Tacticool model in fair condition. I received the gun and 1 magazine in the original S&W blue box, which was unexpected and nice. Out of the box, the gun had good function. There is considerable holster wear, which was expected. The worst wear was on the takedown pin, which was actually ground down slightly on the muzzle end - not sure if this was to add a bevel to ease holstering, or was done to remove rust. The firearm was also absolutely filthy, which was also expected. During full disassembly/cleaning, I did find some superficial surface rust underneath the grips and on the hammer. The rust was was fixed with sanding and buffing. The gun came with tritium night sights, but they are depleted and rusty - these will need to be changed. The magazine was by far the dirtiest component, and was in dire need of cleaning. After reassembly, the excellent fit of the gun was apparent. The tacticool model yea don't judge me was advertised by S&W as having extra slide to frame fitment, and even on a well used gun like this one it was apparent. The slide to frame fitment is VERY tight, and reminded me of my Italian made Beretta 92FS not one of the sloppy USA made ones. I cycled 200 handloads through the weapon at the range 124 grain FMJs with 4.8 grains PP with zero malfunctions. The recoil on this weapon was very light compared to a plastic fantastic 9mm. The trade-off is that this gun weighs as much as any 2 of my polymer wonder nines. Shooters with lower arm strength are definitely going to feel that extra weight at full extension. The accuracy of the pistol is excellent, and shows the very tight barrel lockup. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase. The condition was definitely on the lower end, but acceptable - just be aware that these are going to need TLC when they reach you.
