Chambered in 9mm Luger and utilizing a 15-round, double-stack magazine, the Security-9 strikes the perfect balance between a compact and full-size pistol. It is small and light enough to be easily concealed and comfortably carried, yet has twice the capacity of slimmer 9mm Luger pistols.
At the range, both new and advanced shooters will appreciate the easy-to-rack slide; short, crisp trigger pull; eye-catching sights; and ergonomic, textured grip frame. The American-made Security-9 is constructed around a rigid, one-piece, precision-machined, aluminum chassis with full-length guide rails; a blued, through-hardened alloy steel slide and barrel; and a high-performance, glass-filled nylon grip frame with an integral accessory rail.
The Secure Action used in the Security-9 is the same as the LCP® II and is derived from the reliable and proven hammer-fired LCP fire control system, combining the smooth trigger pull of the LCP with the short, crisp feel and positive reset of a single action. Safety features include a bladed trigger safety, external manual safety, neutrally balanced sear with significant engagement and strong spring tension, and a hammer catch to help prevent the hammer from contacting the firing pin unless the trigger is pulled.
I have fired 205 rounds through my new Ruger Security 9 without any failures. At 15 yards, this gun is very accurate and not too heavy to carry. That said, the reason I didn’t give the Ruger Security 9 a 5.0 is because I believe it should have the same sights and trigger pull as the Security .380. In my opinion, the Security line of Ruger firearms should be consistent across models. Aside from that, I think the Ruger Security 9 is a pretty dependable firearm.
As an instructor, I originally bought mine to use in my new shooter basic pistol classes. Has a very manageable slide. The four inch sight radius makes it a fun range pistol as well as a confident and accurate personal defense tool. After a few classes, I began carrying it as my every day carry. Two best things: it's affordable and not striker fired. Two best qualities: it's light weight and with a very decent trigger.
I love it and it is heavy. The recoil is not that bad. As a woman... my hand/arm does get tired from shooting it. It's not as much fun to shoot it as a 380 or a 22, but for home self protection is perfect. It's too big for conceal and carry, I'm medium frame female. I've had it for a year, never had any issues with it.
The Ruger Security-9 9mm is a great firearm. Comfortable in my hand, not to heavy. Very accurate and I really like the 15 + 1 capacity. It has a lower rail for light or laser sight. I carry mine daily and have put many rounds down range and many different brands of ammo with no issues.
I have shot every type of ammo I could find , I shot 3,000 rounds of s&b 115gr cheapest brass I could find, had spot already, thought there would be a malfunction before 3k, supposed to do a youtube review after the first failure, it still hasn't had one, I'm just going to make the video, the slide didn't lock back on 1 mag, but it was an extended 12 rd mag I customized, that's it. Perfect EDC and home defense.
Sportsmen's Outdoor Superstore and Ruger make a great combination!
I have fed this pistol over a dozen different brands and weights of ammo. I am happy to say that I have yet to find any brand or weight bullet that this pistol wont just eat up. But I would like to mention that it seems to really love Winchester 147 grain Train and Defend ammo. Both the FMJ and the JHP are very accurate out of this pistol 2 inch groups at 15 yards. Can make clover leaf groups off a rest with this ammo. Awesome pistol. Can't beat it for the price!!! Thanks again SOSS for a great purchase experience. I will be buying more off my firearms in the future from you. Best prices and great service I couldn't be happier.
Fired it from 12 and 25 yards and I really like this pistol. Everything hit where I aimed. Sights are easy to see and use. The grip has a real good natural point of aim. I thought the trigger was smooth with a nice break. Very much like the LCP II. This gun really was made for CCW. A very nice pistol with a nice price point. No issues on the range and I am very happy with this pistol. Well worth the money.
Imo this is the best 9mm pistol in its class for the price. You can try as hard as you want but you will never find a better quality mid sized 9mm for $309.00 - pretty much half the price of a Glock 19 with as good or better fit and finish.
