The orientation of the pin, close proximity to the lower receiver, distance required to safely punch a pin and the difficulty in getting the pin started makes it a real pain with standard punches. Real Avid's simple solution, a one-two punch combo specially designed to fit flush against the receiver without damaging it and long enough to reach the pin.
