When I first fired this rifle I used some FMJ rounds just to get the feel of the gun. Accuracy was not that great so I forgot about the gun for a while. The scope, as others have mentioned, is serviceable but does the job. I did like the heavy barrel though. Later on, I tried some quality varmint rounds, and wow was I impressed! I was shooting 1/2 groups or less at 100 yards, and I'm by no means a great shooter. In fact, this gun pretty easily beats my Remington 700 with a custom trigger, fancy scope, and aftermarket stock. The magazine does drop down in the back after shooting, which is a common problem I understand. For the money, this thing is awesome!

If you want a rifle that shoots accurately, and is rugged, but affordable, this is it. The heavy barrel is stiff and stays cool, allowing shot after shot with no point of impact change. The trigger is really good, regardless of the price. The scope is serviceable and will work fine until you decide to upgrade. Best rifle deal out there by far. It has a stiff bolt at first but will wear in if lubed well. Mine was stiff for the first 100 rounds and now it is smooth. The stock is a bit flexible but seems to have no negative impact on accuracy that I can see. Hand loads consistently sub minute to half sub min. What more do you want from a rifle? Everyone that tries this rifle wants one just like it, especially when they hear what I paid for it. Get one.

I bought this rifle based on Savage's accuracy and the heavy barrel, threaded muzzle, and Accu-trigger. I was not so interested in the 4-12 scope it was packaged with. To my surprise, the scope works fine and will do for now. The rifle was hard to find in .223 as it has all the features I wanted. What a pleasant surprise to shoot his weapon. I was on paper in minutes and dialed in with hand-loads by the next range visit. I cannot stress the accuracy of this rifle, capable of better accuracy than I am able to shoot off my wobbly folding shooting table. Some same hole groups at 100 yrds from a budget rifle and scope. I'm very impressed. Buy this rifle if you want an accurate affordable rifle to shoot right away. So accurate that you would not be wrong to upgrade the stock, scope rings, and scope and be well rewarded. BUY IT, its made in the USA too, Love that.

I like the gun a lot. It fires nicely! Replaced the scope with a Vortex Crossfire 2 6-18 AO scope. The scope that came with it was a pretty decent Bushnell. Put that on my .17 Savage and it worked out well. Shipper did every thing as promised!

Bought for wife as she was worried about recoil. First time on range her group was 2 or less but low and left. She easily worked rounds into bullseye and continues to be accurate after about 100 rounds. Great purchase.
