(4 out of 5) Ruger 31113 review and thoughts
by from Centerville, UT on

Basically I purchased three of these rifles as a foundation to build the rifles I wanted. What I wanted was the talo distributor exclusive ruger model 1296 tactical. However that model lacks the iron sights and the barrel is slightly shorter than the original 18.5 inch original carbine. I would have bought the original carbine, but I also wanted the threaded barrel. Also I wanted ATI Six Position Folding Stock in earth color, which I ordered direct from the manufacturer.
I was GREATLY disappointed in the composite plastic trigger group housing and other plastic parts. I then ordered fully metal, steel trigger parts and aluminum trigger group housings used from ebay to replace the composite assembly on all rifles. Also replaced original magazine release lever with a stainless steel AMT Lightning 25/22 version. AMT Lightning 25/22 made of stainless steel was a WAY SUPERIOR clone rifle to rugers original carbine. I then added various other peripherals, scope, bi-pod, lazer, icog, light, flash suppressor, etc.
This rifle is the best foundation that ruger produces with the original carbine platform plus..., however $359 rifle + $150 metal trigger group and parts + $120 Ati stock + $220 scope, and accessories comes out to $849 finished product. Just very disappointed in Ruger to take a great simple old school tested carbine and then cheapen it out. Instead of going composite go stainless steel like the AMT clone for all around better rifle. Sad... Well with a bit of money and work these new rifles can be upgraded with some new stuff and back up to the old school quality of their original carbine.
