The HK MR556 A4 is a high performance, smooth operating, flat shooting and extremely durable rifle for the discerning operator. Aside from being semiautomatic-only and having a different barrel, the HK MR556 A4 is essentially the closest thing to a real HK 416 you can get in the United States. The HK MT556 A4’s barrel is heavy profile and unlined, whereas the HK 416 has a thinner profile and is chrome lined. Despite being unlined, the MR556 A4’s barrel offers extreme durability, managing to surpass mil-spec barrels during development and met 12000 round count during testing. This is thanks to a German cannon-grade cold hammer forged construction.
Just like the real HK 416, the HK MR556 A4 features the same slimline furniture with a thin handguard and M-LOK attachment points. It also features the HK proprietary gas piston operating system found on the HK 416, employing a piston and a solid operating 'pusher' rod in place of the gas tube normally found in certain firearms. This method of operation virtually eliminates malfunctions that are common to direct impingement gas systems since hot carbon fouling and waste gases do not enter the receiver area. This is the same key feature critical to the success of the HK416 rifles used by leading military and law enforcement customers. Other features of the HK MR556 A4 include an "over the beach" style buffer tube with drainage ports and a double length reinforced castle nut.
