In 1993, Ruger released the first Vaquero model. Ruger wanted to manufacture a single-action revolver that would be used in cowboy action shooting competitions, a shooting sport that was barely a decade old at the time. The Vaquero is a fantastic gun. Its curved grip is praised as one of the most ergonomic grips on a handgun. It's chambered to fire .45 Colt cartridges with high-pressure "Ruger Only" loads. And its heavy weight reduces the felt recoil, helping you control your gun with repeat shots.
The New Vaquero replaced the original in 2005 and has been in production since. It was made slightly smaller, appearing closer to the Colt Single Action Army than its predecessor. The size reduction made it lighter and easier to carry, but less metal meant it couldn't handle .44 Magnum and .45 Colt with high-pressure Ruger Only loads that the original could.
When you buy guns online, they cannot be sent to a residential address. They must first be sent to your local FFL dealer in an FFL transfer. You can pick it up from them when it arrives. Before ordering, however, make sure you reach out and get your dealer's consent to receive the gun!
