From 1959 to 1970 the M14 served with distinction as the standard issue rifle of the United States military. When Springfield Armory in Geneseo, IL made the civilian legal variant – the M1A – available to the public in 1974, shooters were finally able to enjoy the same rifle that so many servicemen had utilized in the past.
The Standard Series is a faithful semi-auto only recreation of the original M14. Keep in mind that the Standard M1A is as well suited for a day at the range as it is for filling that special place in your military collection. All the design features that the Armed Services found essential for a battle rifle make the Standard M1A a great shooter. The windage and elevation adjustable rear sight minimizes the effort required to zero the rifle. The two-stage military trigger, detachable box magazine, op-rod and roller cam bolt call to mind the rich history of the M1A while providing functional ease of operation and legendary reliability.
You may be looking for a special addition to your collection, or you may be looking for a hard-working rifle that will pull duty on the range, in the treestand or in your truck. The Standard M1A is ready for its next mission.
I bought this specific model some months ago from Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore. These rifles are so fun to shoot! Its a beauty, I hope to get another one eventually but with that handsome walnut stock. I've had lots of fun at the range with this bad boy. No issues at all with it. The Flat Dark Earth stock is nice and I was surprised by how light it felt when I first held it. I consider myself a huge history buff, and this rifle lets me get a nice modern rifle while still feeling like I have in a small way essentially the same rifle that served our boys in uniform for many years.
It is not a Garand or M14 that saw action in WWII or Nam, but you get the gist, its a close 2nd. I absolutely love it! Proudly made by Springfield Armory in Geneseo, Illinois whos been making firearms pretty much as long as this country has existed. And I got a really good deal from Sportsmans Outdoors Superstore when I got it. All in all, I am a satisfied M1A owner. I look forward to coming back and picking up another one... or two, who knows.
Purchased this rifle for the range. Fit and finish were excellent and the rifle was accurate. I use 168 grain hand loaded match ammo. There are no malfunctions of any type after numerous shooting sessions. Buy with confidence!
Not too late for a review. Purchased this rifle about a year ago and it has performed very well. The fit and finish was great; it's very accurate out of the box. I have fired close to 500 rounds with no hiccups. My only gripe really is the bolt stop/release. It feels cheap, so I replace it with an aftermarket. Overall, great rifle.
I knew what I was getting purchasing the M1A. SOSS is my go to for online firearms purchases now. Just ordered a Sig P226 police trade in, as well. Great experience all around. They'll definitely see more of my money. Thanks guys!
