The APX A1 takes the proven ergonomics and reliability of the APX family to the next level with integrated features derived from feedback from military, law enforcement, and tactical shooters. It aims for the highest levels in performance, safety, and quality to operate for any shooter in the field. Beretta passed every stringent test of the US Army MHS program with its APX pistol candidate and is used by professionals on the ground in more than 20 countries.
Normally $499, on sale at Sportsman's Outdoors Superstore for $379, and after Beretta’s $100 rebate, this pistol came in at $279 with tax. That’s what you’d expect to pay for a Taurus, not a Beretta. I switched from 9mm to .40 and .45 about 20 years ago, and this was my first time going back to a 9mm. Straight out of the box, it was dead-on accurate. The grip and feel are amazing; I swapped out for the larger backstrap as the medium was a bit too small for my hands. The red-optic front sight was extremely easy to pick up, and the ability to keep the barrel on target round after round was Glock-worthy.
The only dings I have are that the springs are really tight in the slide and magazines. The slide is actually difficult to lock back at times, and I got three feed jams over the course of about 200 rounds. I attribute that to the newness, and hopefully, it should loosen up over time. If it does, I will be happy to change my rating from a 4 to a 5.
